Walking on the paths of the Somme

What could be more rejuvenating than walking in the middle of nature between rivers, pastures and undergrowth? The Greater Amiens region offers many walking trails that you can explore alone or with your family to connect with nature. The valleys of the Somme, the Nièvre, the Avre, the Ancre and the Selle offer wonderful walking routes accessible to both beginners and experienced walkers.

Awaken your senses by listening to the whisper of a stream meandering through the meadow, contemplate the open countryside from the viewpoints overlooking the Somme or set off early in the morning for a slow walk in the forest...: come and breathe in nature!

Several guided nature outings offered by the Centre Permanent d'Initiatives pour l'Environnement d'Amiens (CPIE) will help you observe and find out more about the typical fauna and flora of the Somme. Don't miss the Samara marsh, renowned for its biodiversity.

Recharging on the water

Did you know that the presence of water has a positive impact on your mood? The sound of the river's movements promotes relaxation and offers a soothing experience. Enjoy moments of relaxation on the ponds, lakes and rivers of the Greater Amiens area by giving a water activity like canoeing or boating a go.

  • Renting an electric boat at the Maison Éclusière in Ailly-sur-Somme or a kayak at the Maison Éclusière in Long promises a pleasant trip on the river Somme. Embarking on a rafting session in Picquigny or canoeing down the "Selle" from the Lœuilly water sports centre is both a sporty and fun experience in a green setting.

  • Take advantage of a stopover in the city of Jules Verne, Amiens, to discover the Hortillonnages site with its 300 hectares of gardens on the water. To explore this mosaic of floating gardens interspersed with canals, opt for a trip on a horn boat with a boatman guide.

  • Freshwater fishing remains an ideal outdoor sporting activity for creating a close bond with nature and the wildlife that lives there. Exposure to fresh air, sunshine and water has many benefits for boosting your immunity! The Avre and Noye rivers and the many ponds in the Greater Amiens area are ideal sites for freshwater fishing.
