Jardin Archéologique de Saint Acheul

It was during the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries that flint knapping tools were discovered on the Saint-Acheul site: bifaces. Today, this particular flintknapping technique is known as Acheulean, in reference to the Saint-Acheul district, making it world-renowned. The Jardin archéologique de Saint-Acheul, designed to showcase one of the oldest testimonies to our heritage, is an invitation to take a stroll along natural paths, accompanied by interpretive signposts that take you back in time over 450,000 years. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1947 and open to the public since 1998, the Saint-Acheul site illustrates the history of the discovery of prehistory and its worldwide recognition by the scientific community.
