‘It’s like Venice but closer to home! Faithful to its vocation of developing paddleboarding in the city, it’s only natural that Le Grand Huit should paddle in Amiens. The local chapter includes a few champions, who will be delighted to help you discover this sport and their city on the Somme, whether at the foot of the cathedral or in the maze of the medieval ‘hortillonnages’. There is something for everyone. For more seasoned sportspersons, endurance sessions from Port d’aval (Quai St Maurice car park near the lock) and some technical training sessions at Etang de Dreuil (ACP car park in Rue d’Argœuves). And for recreation and an outing, there is a beautiful and simple 4-kilometre tour in Saint Leu and at the entry to the Hortillonnages. Sea outings on Somme Bay are occasionally organised. For practitioners: Saturday afternoons for regular practitioners and certain Sundays at 10 am. Discovery sessions on Saturdays at 2 pm. Summer wear and bare foot, except in winter when a neoprene wetsuit and socks provide greater comfort. Bring a change of clothes just in case... Our objective is zero falls and we have a pretty good record. You will be wearing a life vest and it is mandatory to know how to swim. Accessible to children from the age of 10.’
