Like it does every year, the Water’s Edge Festival will plunge the Saint-Leu district into medieval times...The different events of this traditional, popular festival are bound to delight you.

From boulevard du Cange to boulevard Baraban, discover regional products and crafts of times gone by. Craftsmen will be on the medieval market, while reconstituted war camps will be manned by their warriors. There will also be a Courtyard of Miracles.

With over 80,000 visitors, the autumn flea market in Amiens is the second biggest event of its kind, behind the “braderie de Lille”.

On Sunday 4 October, Amiens will wake up to the festive mood of its traditional autumn “réderie” (flea market). 51 streets (15,000 m²) are taken over by people from all over the region and as far a field as Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy and even Australia, looking for a bargain.

From five in the morning, 500 professional sellers and 1,500 private sellers from all over France set up and organise their tables of treasures.

MARCHE SUR L'EAU TRADITIONNEL DES HORTILLONNAGES

Organised at the same time as the Town Festival, the water market revives the market gardening tradition of the 19th century in Amiens.

Once a year, as part of the Town festival, the water market takes place as it did in years gone by. The ‘hortillons’ (market gardeners of the ‘hortillonnages’ water gardens), in traditional dress, row down the Somme in local boats, loaded with vegetables, red fruits and flowers, as far as place Parmentier.

There, they dock their boats, set up their tables, and the market can get going.

With its odours and costumes, this colourful market retraces the ancestral tradition of authentic products from the hortillonnages floating gardens.
