With its 80,000 vistors,the garage sale (called "réderie" in Picardy) is the second most important event of this type, after this of Lille.

On Sunday, the 29th of April, Amiens will wake up in the festive atmosphere of its traditional spring "réderie". You must be on place very early to find good deals! 51 streets are full of antique-hunters from Picardy, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Italy, and even Australia!

From 5a.m, about 500 professional sellers and 1500 amateur sellers prepare their "shop", like an Aladdin's cave...

30 companies will be invited for the 2008 festival, and will work in different districts of the City of Amiens, municipalities of the metropolitan area, and also in unusual places, residential, work and leisure spaces, etc.

A project with the Acte Théâtral Company will take place in the St-Maurice District, thereby continuing a relationship that began last year. Other districts of Amiens will host companies for remarkable events like Les Commandos Percu in the Nord District with the Safran Arts Center, Chambouletout Théâtre in the St-Leu District, Ilotopie in the St-Pierre's Parc, the Métalovoice Company with the St-Pierre Brass Band in the Cosserat's Factory and the Art Tout Chaud in local municipalities.

And as Saturday 21 June is World Music Day, Générik Vapeur will present its great "Bivouac", so get carried away by the great summer wave of the Fête dans la Ville !

MARCHE TRADITIONNEL SUR L'EAU DES HORTILLONNAGES

Organised at the same time as the Town Festival, the water market revives the market gardening tradition of the 19th century in Amiens.

Once a year, as part of the Town festival, the water market takes place as it did in years gone by. The ‘hortillons’ (market gardeners of the ‘hortillonnages’ water gardens), in traditional dress, row down the Somme in local boats, loaded with vegetables, red fruits and flowers, as far as place Parmentier.

There, they dock their boats, set up their tables, and the market can get going.

With its odours and costumes, this colourful market retraces the ancestral tradition of authentic products from the hortillonnages floating gardens.

CHAMPIONNAT DE FRANCE DE BALLON AU POING

‘Ballon au poing’ is a regional sport that has been in Picardy for over two hundred years.

There are 6 players per team. Players have to wrap up their hand and wrist in canvas or leather strap to hit the ball. A match lasts 6 or 7 games and the scoring is like in tennis.

This sporting and cultural event traditionally takes place in the Amiens Ballodrome - Parc de la Hotoie.

With over 80,000 visitors, the autumn flea market in Amiens is the second biggest event of its kind, behind the “braderie de Lille”.

On Sunday 4 October, Amiens will wake up to the festive mood of its traditional autumn “réderie” (flea market). 51 streets (15,000 m²) are taken over by people from all over the region and as far a field as Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy and even Australia, looking for a bargain.

From five in the morning, 500 professional sellers and 1,500 private sellers from all over France set up and organise their tables of treasures.
