The Department of Heritage and Historical Monuments of Amiens Métropole, Amiens, Town of Artistic and Historical Interest, organises heritage workshops and discovery visits.
In term time, Amiens, Town of Artistic and Historical Interest, organises heritage workshops. The subjects and contents of the workshops are adapted to the programmes of nursery and primary schools, junior and senior secondary schools. There is a wide choice of programmes dealing with historical context, the environment and architecture. They also help the young to understand town organisation, housing and the countryside from prehistory to the present day.
The heritage workshops are supervised by guides officially approved by the Ministry of Culture and acting as true cultural mediators. They contribute to the children’s visual education by concentrating on four major areas: the sensory approach to architecture, town planning and the environment; the complex notions of space, volume, rhythm and proportion made accessible to the pupils using appropriate materials to stimulate experimentation and creativity; meetings with specialists and professionals (architects, town planners, artistic craftsmen, visual artists, etc.); and the development of a civic consciousness.
In the course of the workshops, pupils will be able to explore the world of stained-glass windows, ribbed vaults, half-timbered houses, building materials, from clay to brick, the evolution of man, hunting, flint sharpening, the mastery of fire, aerial archaeology, etc. (other subjects on request).
