Environment: Nature in the city

The originality of the zoological park is that two rivers, the Basse and the Haute Selle, make it into an island.
A visit of the Hortillonnages floating gardens is not to be missed.
These sites heighten children’s’ awareness of the environment in a fun way thanks to a little trail through the city's islands.

Morning

Visit the Hortillonnages by boat. This exceptional landscape in the heart of the city is made up of market gardens, pleasure gardens, ponds and canals, which are called "rieux” in local dialect. The name “Hortillonages” comes from the Latin “hortus", which means "gardens". Commentary by boat driver. Duration: 45 minutes

Lunch time

Picnic in Saint-Pierre park (between the hortillonages and the Saint-Leu district) or in the zoo (outdoors).

Afternoon

Free visit (without guide) of Amiens zoo. There are educational signs on the different species throughout the zoo.
The zoo is home to around sixty species. Its vocation is to make visitors aware of its main missions, which are preservation of species and protection of the environment. Duration: 1 ½ hours

Permanent exhibition on the threats to animal and plant species.
