The hortillonnages

The name “Hortillonages” comes from the Latin “hortus", which means "gardens". Visitors can explore a natural and protected environment at the heart of the city of Amiens.

The Clos Alexandre

South of Amiens, this 5,000-square metre city garden, which was entirely redesigned and restructured in 1992, symbolises the evolution of gardeners and gardens.

The Madeleine Cemetery

This park is one of the most romantic cemeteries in France. Jules Verne is buried here and, each year, visitors from all over the world come to his tomb to pay their respects.

Barouche rides

Take a trip through Amiens ancient and modern to the rhythm of hoofbeats. The commentary is provided by Monsieur Dupont, the coachman.

The Boats of Saint-Leu

Crossed by the Somme, the Saint-Leu district was born in the Middle Ages. At this time, water and mills provided the power required for weaving, dyeing, tanning and other millers.

Cruise along the Somme

Sail down the Somme on the “Bienvenue Picardie” boat.

The Musée de Picardie

The Musée de Picardie is a fine example of 19th-century architecture. It was designed as a palace and modelled on Napoleon III’s new Louvre as a monument to Picardy.

Folleville

The village of Folleville contains the remains of a medieval castle and a world-heritage listed church (part of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route). The church houses the remarkable tombs of the Lords of Folleville. The tombs are made in Carrara marble, heralding the arrival of the Italian Renaissance in Picardy. At the foot of the castle, a village reconstructs the décor and vestiges of the past.

Remains of the Chateau de Picquigny and the Saint-Martin collegiate church

Set in the heart of a village that still has a medieval feel to it, the fortifi ed chateau of the Vidames of Amiens welcomes visitors within its walls to discover its historic past. As part of your visit to this 11th-century fortress, your guide will take you down to explore the network of underground passageways (cellars, access to prisons and dungeons).

The medieval town of Lucheux

Lucheux is the only medieval town in the Somme to claim the three monuments symbolising French society in the Middle Ages: the 12/13th century Castle Keep with its exceptional machicolations on arcades, the Romanesque Church and its authentic 12th century historiated capitals and the 13th century belfry, listed as part of UNESCO World Heritage.
