A visit of the Hortillonnages floating gardens is not to be missed.
These sites heighten children’s’ awareness of the environment in a fun way thanks to a little trail through the city's islands.
Morning
Boat trip to the Hortillonnages. This remarkable scenic feature located in the heart of the urban area is made up of market gardens, ornamental gardens, ponds and canals (known as “rieux” by the locals). The name comes from the Latin word “hortus”, which means “garden”. Commentary is provided by the boatmen.

Midday
Picnic in Saint-Pierre Park (between the Hortillonnages and the Saint-Leu district) or in the Zoological Gardens (outdoors).
Afternoon
Visit (without guide) to Amiens Zoological Gardens. The gardens are home to almost sixty different species, living alongside one another in natural surroundings. A place to wander at will with much to discover, it aims to raise visitors’ awareness of its major objectives – conservation of species and protection of the environment.
Duration: About 1½ hours.
