Built in 1535 under the reign of François 1, the citadel marks the transition between middle-age forts and Vauban citadels one century later.
Its sandstone architecture is unique in France, along with its ace of spade bastions and its network of galleries. The Doullens Citadel is witness to 500 years of military history.

Duration: 1½ hours.

- in July and August, from monday to saturday betweent 11am and 3pm.

Guided tour of the medieval town of Lucheux :

The medieval village of Lucheux is a gem that has conserved three buildings from the Middle Ages:
The fort: a fortified structure built by the Counts of Saint Pol, the fort houses interesting vestiges of 12th to 14th century civilian and military architecture.
The Belfry: symbol of liberty of the communes, the belfry was built in the 13th century on the site of an old village gateway. Louis XI signed the Edit des Postes here in 1464.
The Church: built in the 12th century, it is one of the few churches in the Somme with a Romanesque choir decorated with sculpted capitals representing old pagan traditions.

The unique command room

Guided tour of the unique command room :

Doullens is considered the cradle of victory: on 26 March 1918 in the city hall of Doullens, French and British civilian and military authorities met to appoint General Foch as the co-ordinator of the allied forces. This decision marked a turning point in the First World War, which led the allies to victory on 11 November 1918.

Programme of visits :

Free visit, all year round, when the City Hall is open:
- from Monday to Friday from 8am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm
- Saturday from 10am to 12pm

 

The Lombart Museum
The Lombart Museum

The Lombart Museum :

This museum was offered to the town of Doullens in 1908 by Jules François Lombart, industrial chocolate maker and art lover, in remembrance of his parents from Doullens.
Here you can discover works by Corot, Chardin, Daubigny and Poulbot (from a local family), as well as a mummy, Egyptian artefacts and archaeological items.

Programme of visits :

Free visit all year round :
- from Tuesday to Saturday from 2pm to 5pm (possibility of guided tour at 2pm and 4pm)
- Saturday from 10am to 12pm
- Free on the 1st sunday of the month from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm
