Poix-de-Picardie

The town of POIX DE PICARDIE is to be found deep in a delightful, quiet valley, surrounded by wooded hills, and holds out a whole range of green tourism activities, by virtue of which it has rightly won the “Station Verte” [green resort] seal of approval.

On no account miss...

The Church of Saint Denis

Picturesquely perched on the Montcille, the parish church of POIX DE PICARDIE, named after Saint Denis, looms over our little town, seemingly wanting to protect it. You will be charmed by the 16th-century flamboyant baroque architecture of the church of Saint Denis, which affords all its visitors the sight of a series of 43 hanging keystones unique in Europe.

The military cemetery

The church is flanked by a World War II military cemetery. It is a place of remembrance for the Commonwealth airmen who lost their lives.

The Viaduct

Built in 1866, the Viaduct is part of a cultural heritage to which the Poyais attach great importance, their pride being exported to all four corners of France thanks to the postmark that the postal service stamps onto every missive dispatched, and which helps spread the word about the work of art in question. It was the target of three wartime bombings in the 20th century, which is why only the first two arches, in the Rouen direction, of its original structure now survive. Despite its many vicissitudes, our Viaduct still spans the Faÿ valley, carrying the Amiens-Rouen railway line.

The Poix Countryside

You will be spellbound as never before by the ancient buildings you explore and the quiet, unspoilt landscape as you comb the countryside surrounding Poix, following the dozens of marked hiking trails that afford unobstructed views over the sites of character marking out the tiny villages around Poix.

The Château de Courcelles

An 18th-century château. Built in stone with brickwork panels and comprising a main portion and two wings, the building is remarkable for its monumental doorway and its garden laid out in the French style.

The Larris

Covering the steeper sides of the valleys that cut into the plateau, the larris [chalk downlands] are the hallmark of the grassy landscapes tinged with yellow from mid-summer and dotted with shrubs. The Guizancourt Mountain larris is one of the last larris of the Evoissons. Conserving this local heritage is a responsibility incumbent on each one of us and calls, first and foremost, for respect for this natural environment where, if you follow the hiking trail, you will be able to discover a wealth of fauna and flora, and also have an unobstructed view over the village of Guizancourt, nestling deep in a wooded valley surrounded by pastures and hillsides.
