Art, Cities, Landscape: The 2017 Festival

For the 8th edition of the "Art, Cities and Landscape " Festival, you can explore the Hortillonnages, (floating gardens) in a boat that will take you along cultural and artistic shores, from 17th June 17 to 15th October, 2017. Breath in the air around you and let yourself be carried away by this festival that takes a refreshing look upon the landscapes shaped by Man.

Set off on the 2 and a half hour walk to the heart of the Hortillonnages in the city of Amiens. Treat yourself to an adventure and explore the 45 artworks, installations and gardens, on both land and water. Admire the new and ephemeral landscape highlighted by the radiance that accentuates this location’s natural and delicate beauty.

This year, the festival is hosting 12 new works and 33 renewals for you to enjoy. Individuals and teams of landscapers, architects, visual artists, integration projects and market gardeners have all created and installed the works around the site with technical support from the Amiens Maison de la Culture teams (European Pole of Creation and Production).

You’ll sail away to distant lands and visit islands or perhaps turn the corner on a bank and find yourself in Tehran. In 2017, the region signed a partnership with Iran to create perennial gardens that are respectful to the environment and concerned with the issues of water and the natural environments in towns. Never before have the floating gardens taken you on such a long journey...

In September, two new gardens are being created, a leisure garden and an ecological garden, which will appear on two roundabouts in the northern district of Amiens city centre. These gardens are a continuation of the work carried out in creating a terrace at the Tourist Office and a garden court yard in the Maison de la Culture as well as having a strong connection with the festival's artistic direction.

On 1st July, the artists, the jury and some officials will attend the inauguration. Among the artworks this year, you will find: "Pop-Up Island", "Ronbinsonnade in the Aire", "Willows of Amiens" and "Hydrophone" ... This wave of new exhibits come from artists such as Yuhsin U Chang, Charles-Henry Fertin, Pierre-Yves Diehl, Mengzhi Zheng and the collaboration "Un 102! Paysagiste ".
