The Belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage site

The Belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage site

A symbol of municipal freedom, the Belfry has stood in Place au Fil since the Middle Ages.

A symbol of communal liberties, the belfry played host to the alderman meetings, housed the city bells and served as watchtower and prison.

The monument that stands in the heart of the market town has undergone many changes over the centuries. Today, it is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by the belfries of Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardy and Belgium.

Its joyous carillon now provides a musical background to the day for Amiens residents. But it was once better known for having been a prison!
The hundred-step climb to the terrace will reward you with a breath-taking panoramic view of the city and the cathedral. Catch your breath and enjoy it!
