There are two sides to Amiens: an active metropolis and a country town. It discreetly boasts a multitude of landscapes and sites sculpted by the water, which is omnipresent. Greenery guaranteed.
The hortillonnagesThe hortillonages “floating gardens” are emblematic of Amiens. You can discover them in special boats known as “barques à cornet”. The hortillonages cover 300 hectares. They are interlaced with 65km of small canals, known as “rieux” in the local dialect. These market gardens, gently lapped by the Avre and the Somme, have been cultivated since the Middle Ages.

Parks and gardensJust a few steps from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, Amiens hides some small green oases. An artist’s garden, an animal park, a family park and a nature reserve breathe life and beauty into body and mind. |
On the waterYou can’t talk about the landscape of Amiens and its region without mentioning the Somme river. It provides for ideal bucolic walks along the towpath, as well as for jogging, or cycling. |
